What to discover in Sarntal

In the footsteps of culture, nature, and tradition

CRAFTSMANSHIP WITH HEART AND TRADITION

The craftsmanship of this valley is known almost everywhere in South Tyrol. From the quill embroidery to hand weaving and wood carving to woodturning, here are true masters at work. This craftsmanship is present in every stitch, every cut, and every form. The five craft shops in Sarntal named “Sarner Gschick” share one vision: Love for craftsmanship and the creation of unique pieces that embody a significant part of the history and culture of Sarntal.

ATTRACTIONS AT THE DOORSTEPS

Your little journey of discovery through Sarnthein begins at Höllriegl and leads you to the first attraction right next door. The 11.5-meter-high Kränzelstein Towerwas a residence of the Counts of Eppan in the 13th century and has been open to the public since 2022. The cultural tour continues with the Rohrerhaus Farmhouse, offering insights into the history and traditions of the Sarntal. Finally, a last detour takes you to Reinegg Castle, which proudly overlooks the village and holds many fascinating treasures.

A WALK AROUND LAKE DURNHOLZ

An additional attraction in Sarntal is Lake Durnholz. The triangular mountain lake in the Durnholzer Tal valley is a little gem in the middle of the Sarntal Alps. The lake is too cold for swimming, but the idyllic spot is perfect for a leisurely 1.5-hour walk. If you want more action, the lake is also the starting point for other tours that start from here and head into the mountains of the Sarntal Valley.
